Skatepark of San Marcos

This website will focus on the Skatepark of San Marcos featuring the park itself as well as the obstacles I enjoy skating recently.

My name is Campbell Stropp and I am a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. I am originally from Austin, TX. I decided to make my project about the skatepark of San Marcos because my opinion has changed so drastically on the park in the past few months. Originally I didn’t enjoy it and thought the layout was too awkward. As I skate there more I’m learning how to flow better throughout the park and create new routes. Now each time I go I have more fun than the last.

My 5 Favorite Obstacles

This slideshow will feature my top 5 favorite obstacles right now at the skatepark of San Marcos. I recommend reading as you move through the slides.

The first obstacle in the park as you walk in, called a pole jam. There are multiple ways to skate it but typically people will just ride up it and land back onto the concrete. I’ve been trying to ollie into the pole jam from the other side but it’s a lot more intimidating than I expect every time.

The next obstacle is this bank with the rail, ledge, and euro gap. This is a very versatile section as you have the option to hit a ledge, rail, or gap and can go up or down. I like going up the rail on the right from the euro gap, it’s a very interesting set of set obstacles with lots of room for creativity.

After that is the big bowl, there is another smaller bowl towards the back of the park but I did not include it on this list because it’s very difficult to get comfortable in and I wouldn’t say it’s one of my 5 favorite things to skate right now. However, the larger bowl is a lot of fun and there are lots of different route options to take as well as a spine and lots of different sizes of transition.

The second to last obstacle is this ledge that goes over a drain. This obstacle is very unique and I’ve come to like it a lot over time. You can go over the gap, hit the ledge, go from the top and grind the sides of the drain, and there are probably much more ways to skate it that I haven’t thought of.

Finally, my favorite obstacle at the skatepark of San Marcos, I’m honestly not sure what to officially call this but I just call it “The Trapezoid” for obvious reasons. This obstacle is just a lot of fun for me personally because I can transfer the tricks I know on ramps onto this which gives me a lot of opportunities for new things.
